Limiting the social impact of an event

The event is an opportunity to live an experience. It brings people together, so it means taking care of the specific characteristics and needs of each person: diversity, inclusion, accessibility, relational dynamics… All components of an experience of well-being, with a view to sustainable development.

How can you organise events that respect people?

Whether they are women or men, old or young, of any colour (…) all human diversity should be welcomed at an event, in accordance with the principle of inclusion:

  • Protect human diversity in all its forms.
  • Reflect the make-up of the area’s population.
  • Create the best conditions for inclusion.

It is important to design infrastructures that are easily accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM) and to think about all the facets of an event, also taking into account disabilities related to sight, hearing, touch or smell:

  • Promote accessibility for all forms of disability and make information available to everyone.
  • List all the points of attention in the design of the infrastructure: parking, access ramps, toilet facilities, entrances, exits, etc.
  • Make the event affordable for everyone.

Even the most exceptional welcome is no guarantee of good relations between event participants. To create a link between them:

  • Boost creativity to stimulate participative meetings (talking circles, world cafe, open forum, ice breaker, etc.);
  • Optimise your sensory experiences by using all five senses!
